UCL: How Ronaldo Rescued Manchester United With Late Goal Against Villarreal

Cristiano Ronaldo scored a late dramatic goal to help Manchester United to a crucial 2-1 win over Villarreal in their Champions League clash at Old Trafford Wednesday night,

It was another record-breaking night for the Portuguese forward whose second coming to United has been a big blessing for the stuttering Red Devils.

Wednesday’s pairing was a repeat of last season’s Europa League final, won by the Yellow Submarines on penalties after a 1-1 draw,

And this time around, it was looking like the LaLiga side would hurt the Red Devils who found themselves deservedly behind when Paco Alcacer scored early in the second half.

However, Alex Telles levelled with a spectacular volley, and it looked as though these sides would share the spoils for the fifth game in a row in this competition,

That wasn’t the case as Ronaldo off an assist from Jese Lingard drilled past Geronimo Rulli to send Old Trafford into wild jubilation,

The crucial goal was a perfect way for Ronaldo to celebrate his new status as the player with the most Champions League appearances (178).

Ronaldo’s late strike also gives United their first points of the Champions League campaign, sending them third behind Young Boys and early group F leaders, Atalanta.

Villarreal who are still without their Nigerian forward Samuel Chukwueze remain bottom of the table with one point.

Elsewhere, Federico Chiesa proved to be a big game player once again with the only goal in Juventus’ 1-0 Champions League win over Chelsea which could kick-start their faltering season.

Two goals from Robert Lewandowski saw Bayern Munich cruising to a 5-0 win over Dynamo Kyiv.

The win Wednesday over Dynamo Kyiv marked the ninth game in succession that Bayern scored three or more goals across all competitions
