CAF Confederation Cup: Finidi excited with first Enyimba win
Former Nigeria international and coach of Enyimba International, Finidi George has expressed delight at the winning start with the People’s Elephant in the CAF Confederation Cup.
NPFL most successful club, Enyimba International on Saturday defeated Diambers FC of Senegal 1-0 in Dakar in the CAF Confederation Cup second round first leg encounter.
Cyril Olisema turned to be the hero for the People’s Elephant as his 86th minute strike gave Enymba a crucial away win and also puts them in the driving seat ahead of the return leg next week in Aba.
After the game, Enyimba coach, Finidi George said; “It was a good game for us and also a good beginning. The game plan worked for us and we hope to do better in the rest of the game.”
Though not the best of performances, Enyimba frustrated the host and created handful of chances to take the game home but resolute defending by the Diambers’ backline prevented more goals from going into the net.
Enyimba will host the return leg in Aba, Abia State on Sunday with a goalless or score draw handing them a place into the group stage of the Confederation Cup.
Enyimba reached the quarter-final in the 2021 season but were eliminated by Egypt’s Pyramid.
