#EndSARSMemorial: Tension as Police arrest journalist, others in Lagos (PHOTOS)

At least two persons have been arrested by men of the Nigerian Police Force at the Lekki Toll Gate, the venue of the #EndSARSmemorial protest in Lagos.

The journalist, Abisola Alawode, was assaulted while doing a live streaming reportage of the #EndSARS memorial protest.

Both persons were reportedly beaten, punched in the nose, and subsequently driven away in a police truck.

There is a heavy presence of law enforcement officials with at least 30 police trucks and officers stationed at the toll plaza.

Remember that the EndSARS protest was sparked by extrajudicial killings committed by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), a Nigerian Police Force unit established in late 1992 to combat robbery, motor vehicle theft, kidnapping, cattle rustling, and firearms offenses.

Demonstrators gathered at the Lekki Tollgate on October 20, where the Nigerian Army allegedly opened fire on unarmed protesters, killing many Nigerian teenagers.

According to reports, at least 99 individuals were killed in Lagos during the #EndSARS demonstration, and their bodies were transferred in a state mortuary.
