Chelsea confirm Lampard’s sack

Premier League club Chelsea have confirmed they have parted ways with Frank Lampard as their manager.

Though the Blues in an official statement released on Monday said it was difficult sacking Lampard, they were quick to add the decision was inevitable if the club is to make headway this season.

Despite still staying on in the FA Cup, Chelsea are currently on a poor run of form in the Premier League, losing five of their last eight games and well off the pace, struggling to get into the top four.

Reacting to Monday’s sacking of Lampard, Chelsea billionaire owner Roman Abramovich said he still has the utmost respect for the club legend.

He said: “This was a very difficult decision for the Club, not least because I have an excellent personal relationship with Frank and I have the utmost respect for him’.

“He is a man of great integrity and has the highest of work ethics. However, under current circumstances, we believe it is best to change managers.

“On behalf of everyone at the Club, the Board and personally, I would like to thank Frank for his work as Head Coach and wish him every success in the future. He is an important icon of this great club and his status here remains undiminished. He will always be warmly welcomed back at Stamford Bridge.”

Chelsea said they will be making no further comment until such time as a new Head Coach is appointed.

Former PSG coach Thomas Tuchel is the top on the list of candidates touted to replace Lampard at the Bridge.
