Chelsea 4-0 Juventus: Blues Zoom Into UCL Round Of 16 In Style
Chelsea needed just a draw on Tuesday night to qualify for the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 but they upped the ante; beating Juventus 4-0 at Stamford Bridge to secure their passage to the knockout phase in style.
The Blues went into Tuesday’s tie on the back of a 12-year winless run against the Italians and determined to break the jinx, Thomas Tuchel’s men hit the ground running from the blast of the whistle.
While Chelsea had just one goal advantage in the first half courtesy of Trevor Chalobah’s 25th-minute strike, they turned the heat in the second 45 minutes; scoring three goals more to win the tie 4-0.
Recce James, C. Hudson-Odoi and Timo Werner all found the back of the net to give the reigning European Kings a resounding victory.
The result more than avenges Chelsea’s 1-0 defeat in Turin earlier in the group stage, and means they will advance as group winners if they win away to Zenit St. Petersburg on the final day, regardless of results elsewhere.
