JUST IN: Another injury blow for Super Eagles

Barely a month to the opening of the Super Eagles camp for the African Cup of Nations, the team has been hit with another bad news.

The team’s first choice goalkeeper, Maduka has joined the growing injury list.

Okoye suffered an injury blow on Sunday as his club, Sparta Rotterdam were defeated 1-0 at home in their Eredivisie clash with League leaders, Ajax.

Okoye was injured in the first half and had to make way in the 24th minute.

The Watford-bound goalkeeper was replaced by Benjamin van Leer after a suspected shoulder injury following a collision with Ajax forward, Danilo.

The club confirmed the injury on their Twitter handle but did not give further details: “Sparta are forced to make a first change due to injury to Okoye,” the club said.

Okoye’s injury is coming on the heels of the blow suffered by Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen who on Tuesday underwent successful facial surgery in Italy.

While Okoye should be only out for a few weeks, Osimhen has been ruled out of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON in Cameroon early next year.
