Nigerian striker joins the list of Premier League legends
Though out of favour with the Nigeria national team where he has consistently been snubbed for Super Eagles’ games, Emmanuel Dennis is making waves in the Premier League with Watford.
While the Hornets were beaten at the weekend away to Leicester City, Dennis proved his mettle once more and his performance has seen him joining the ‘list of legends’ in the EPL.
As revealed by Opta, the Nigerian forward is only the sixth player in Premier League history to reach both five goals and five assists in 12 or fewer games.
He is coming right behind Eric Cantona (11), Jurgen Klinsmann (12), Arjen Robben (11), Andrey Arshavin (10) and Bruno Fernandes (9).
The Nigerian scored the Hornets’ second goal at the King Power Stadium but it was not enough to help them avoid a 4-2 defeat against Leicester City on Sunday.
The former Club Brugge star scored Watford’s second goal in the 61st minute but his compatriot Ademola Lookman found the back of the net again for Leicester, seven minutes later.
Aside from Leicester City, Watford have scored against Aston Villa, Norwich City, Everton and Manchester United.
Unfortunately, Dennis picked a knock in Sunday’s tie against Leicester City and was substituted in the 71st minute with Ashley Fletcher
The latest updates from Watford coach Claudio Ranieri has revealed the 24-year-old Nigeria international is now a doubt to face Chelsea at Vicarage Road.
Adam Masina and goalkeeper Ben Foster, who was missing from the starting line-up on Sunday are also doubtful for the game against the Blues.
“I’m not sure how long Ben will be out for, but [Daniel] Bachmann made some good saves and I am comfortable with him in goal,” Ranieri told the club’s official website.
“With Dennis and Masina, I’m not sure at the moment. Tomorrow [Monday] we’ll check everybody because Dennis came out and Masina didn’t finish well.”
