Photos: Dispute Between Gov Obaseki And deputy Gets Messier

By Orji Onyekwere & Rita Elenwo

The rift between Comrade Philip Shaibu, Deputy Governor of Edo State and his principal Godwin Obaseki seems to be getting messier as the former was on Monday locked out of office.

RovingNaija Reporters gathered that Phillip Shauibu arrived his office in the morning only to see that the gate has been locked and had to turn back after all attempts to reach his principal to gain access failed.

While reacting to the development he said: “Up till now, I don’t have any official communication that I should relocate. The only people that have official communication are my civil servants. The civil servants have official communication but I don’t. As I am speaking to you now, I am standing by the gate,” as he spoke to a yet-to-be-identified person on phone.

This latest developments is coming on the heels of a settlement brokered between Gov Obaseki and his embattled deputy led by the Catholic Archbishop of Benin Archdiocese, His Grace Most Rev Dr Augustine Akubeze, and some eminent Nigerians including traditional rulers who called on the two to bury their hatchets and work together as a team for the benefit of Edo people.

However this latest development have not gone down well with the supporters of Phillip Shauibu who claim the governors action smacks of abuse of power and victimisation.

The two have been at loggerheads over the issue of succession as Obaseki recently accused his deputy of being desperate to succeed him.
