UCL: Chukwueze lands in the knockout phase with Villarreal
Though he was an unused player in Thursday’s delayed match, Samuel Chukwueze has moved into the knockout phase of the UEFA Champions League with Villarreal
The Nigerian watched all through from the bench as Villarreal recorded a hard-fought 3-2 win at Atalanta in Group F, and qualify for the Round of 16
The game was shifted to Thursday no thanks to the heavy snow which was experienced on Wednesday.
A brace from Arnaut Danjuma and a goal from Etienne Capoue helped the Yellow Submarines clinch the final round of 16 ticket.
The result means Villarreal join Manchester United (leaders in Group F) in the next round.
The first and second-placed teams in each of the eight groups (A-H) will take their places in the first knockout stage, which will be played in 2022.
The first legs are scheduled for February, and the second legs are being played in March 2022.
In the draw, the group winners will be drawn against the runners-up.
Teams from the same group or same country cannot be drawn against each other in the round of 16.
The group winners will play the second leg at home.
