You Can’t Abscond From Duty Post And Be Persecuting Your Deputy- Ondo Group Tackles Akeredolu

A non-governmental group named Ondo Redemption Front has questioned the moral justification of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu and the state House of Assembly to stage an impeachment move against the deputy governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

It revealed that Akeredolu has absconded from his responsibility as the Chief Executive Officer of the State.

The group stated this during a press conference in Akure, the Ondo State capital on Monday.

It wondered why Governor Akeredolu would resort to the “persecution” of his Deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, after returning from medical vacation in Germany.

The group led by its Chairman and Co-Chair, Ayodeji Ologun and Kayode Mogbojuri noted that such action by the Governor is an abuse of power.

“In the last six months, the State has been witnessing challenges surrounding leadership.

“We strongly believe that politics should be the least of the concern of the political class in Ondo State.

“While we don’t speak for the Deputy Governor, we want to warn that the State House of Assembly should restrain itself from the ongoing “persecution” of Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa,” the group alleged.

The group challenged the Assembly to focus on the fact that Mr Governor has not been in the State since returning to Nigeria, instead of planning the impeachment process of the Deputy Governor.

It further called on the National Assembly to step in to halt the House of Assembly from proceeding with what it called the “illegal” impeachment process against the deputy.

“We are in a constitutional democracy, and due process must be followed. We foresee a situation whereby the State House of Assembly is about to throw the State into anarchy.

“We are going to follow the process of the impeachment to the latter. We would resort to petitioning or public protest to resist the move by the Ondo Assembly, if the need arises.”

The group leadership also called on the Ondo State Government to disclose the details of the disbursement of palliatives in Ondo State, after the release of funds by the Federal Government.

The group also thanked President Bola Tinubu for appointing young persons from the State as Ministers.
