AFCON 2021: Super Eagles beat Sudan to qualify for Round of 16
Nigeria has qualified for the knockout stages of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations ongoing in Cameroon.
The Super Eagles beat Sudan 3-1. in their round 2 matches to qualify, having secured six points from two matches.
Goals from Samuel Chukwueze, Taiwo Awoniyi, and Moses Simon sealed maximum points for the Super Eagles.
Chukwueze broke the deadlock after just three minutes when his left-foot shot could not be stopped by goalkeeper Ali Abu-Eshrein.
Awoniyi doubled the lead for Nigeria just before the halftime whistle. Nigeria again got an early goal at the restart, thanks to Simon’s solo effort.
However, Sudan pulled one back when Ola Aina brought down a Sudanese player inside the 18-yard box, conceding a penalty. Walieldin Khidir stepped up and sent Maduka Okoye the wrong way to end the tie on 3-1.
