Senate confirms INEC National Commissioners
The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC on Tuesday in Abuja confirmed the appointment of National Commissioners.
Senator Kabiru Gaya, the committee chairman explained that the nomination was made in accordance with the relevant provisions of the constitution and all nominees we’re invited and interviewed and the outcome was satisfactory.
He added that the nominees are of good standing and have contributed to the national economy.
Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege commended the committee for their due diligence.
“That the Senate do receive and consider the report of the Committee on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on the confirmation of the nominations of the following persons for appointment as National Commissioner for the Independent National Electoral Commission.”
He also noted that the election was a serious exercise and as such it was left in the hands of serious minded citizens which president Muhammadu Buhari eventually forwarded to the Senate.
After the contribution, Senate President, Dr Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan, called for confirmation of the nominees.
The confirmed nominees are:
- Malami Mohammed Haruna (Niger) – National Commissioner
- Mrs May Agbamuche-Mbu (Delta) – National Commissioner
- Ukeagu Kenneth Nnamdi (Abia) – National Commissioner
- Maj. Gen. A.B.Alkali (rtd) (Adamawa) – National Commissioner
- Engr. (Prof.) Rhoda H. Gumus (Bayelsa) – National Commissioner
- Mr Sam Olumekun (Ondo) – National Commissioner
- Olaniyi Olaleye (Ondo) – Resident Electoral Commissioner
Each National Commissioner represents their geopolitical zone, while Mr Olaniyi Olaleye serves as Resident Electoral Commissioner.
