JUST IN: Court rejects Abba Kyari’s bail application
A federal high court sitting in Abuja has turned down an application for bail filed for suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police Abba Kyari.
In a ruling on Monday, the court judge, Inyang Ekwo held that the bail application has been overtaken by event.
Kyari’s lawyers had approached the court to seek bail on health grounds, claiming the suspect is suffering from diabetes and high blood pressure and would need medical attention.
On February 14, Kyari was arrested by the Nigerian Police moment after the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) declared him wanted over his involvement in a 25kg cocaine deal.
He was handed over to the NDLEA following his arrest and has been in the custody of the agency.
