Abba Kyari plans to escape, flee Nigeria – NDLEA

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has claimed that suspended DCP Abba Kyari is planning to flee Nigeria if granted bail by the court.

In court on Monday, the agency opposed granting bail to Kyari, arguing that he would escape and had the capacity to interfere with witnesses.

The agency made its argument in a 21-paragraph counter-affidavit it lodged before the court insisting that Kyari posed a flight risk.

While adopting the counter-affidavit before trial Justice Emeka Nwite on Monday, the NDLEA, through its Director, Prosecution & Legal Services, Mr. Joseph Sunday, stressed that the disgraced officer has the capacity to interfere with its witnesses.

Kyari alongside four former members of the Police IRT, ACP Sunday J. Ubia, ASP Bawa James, Insp. Simon Agirigba and Insp. John Nuhu, as well as two drug traffickers that were arrested at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu, Chibunna Patrick Umeibe and Emeka Alphonsus Ezenwanne.

Kyari and the four officers were arrested after getting caught attempting to bribe an agent of the NDLEA with $61,000 to facilitate the release of seized cocaine.

The Judge adjourned the matter till March 28th.
