Reverend Sisters, Couple And Driver Burnt To Ashes In Anambra Auto Crash
No less than five people were reportedly burnt to death in a tragic accident that occurred at the Nwafia axis of the Enugu -Onisha Expressway on Tuesday night.
Two reverend Sisters, husband and wife, and the driver of the vehicle they were traveling in, were the victims of the unfortunate accident.
The Nuns who were identified as Virginia Obike and Monica Ilem were principal and bursar of Handmaid’s Secondary School, Amansea, Awka North LGA while one of the couples, Emmanuel Okeke was a Storekeeper at Anambra state government. He was traveling in the same vehicle with his wife.
The Nuns had reportedly traveled to Amansea to purchase bags of rice for the School.
One of the eyewitnesses, Mr Chinecherem Okonkwo said he arrived at the accident scene when it happened during the light rainfall at the night but it was too late for any meaningful help.
By the time people gathered at the scene to offer any help, all the victims were already burnt to ashes.
A brother to the couple, said he spoke with his brother, Emmanuel around 5 pm on that day and by 9 pm, his number and that of his wife were switched off which consequently led to their search. He later discovered their burnt bodies at the scene the following morning.
The victims were said to be traveling in Toyota Highlander which was also burnt beyond recognition.
While their bodies were removed from the road and taken to the mortuary, the carcass of the vehicles were moved to the side of the road to give way for traffic.
