Barring any unforseen development ahead of the All Progress Congress Primary election scheduled for next month, 7,800 delegates are expected to determine the fate of about eight presidential aspirants on who picks the party ticket.

Sources within the presidency has confirmed that president Muhammadu Buhari has ruled out the possibility of consensus or direct primaries as a way of choosing the party presidential flagbearer in May.

Apart from the National Leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Professor Yemi Osinbajo, other aspirants expected to slug it out at the primary are the governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State, Business tycoon, Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, former Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha and Ihechukwu Dallas Chima.

The party had reportedly fixed May 30-31 for the conduct of its presidential primary election, where one of the aspirants would be elected to fly its flag for the 2023 presidential election.

According to reports, the party National Working Committee is expected to meet this week for the ratification of Buhari’s decision and communicate the final decision to the public.
