After four days of societal craze over the dress code of vice presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress, Senator Kashim Shettima, the truth behind the dress drama appears to have been finally revealed.
The former Borno state governor has been trending since Monday over the way he dressed to the Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association which was held on Monday in Lagos.
Shettima noticeably wore a three- button suit with red tie and complemented the dress with a pair of sneakers. The combination was punctured by Nigerians who began to analyse the inherent errors in the dressing.
Within the twinkle of an eye, social media went crazy with different types of comments and photos of the former Senator from the conference venue. It further took a new dimension when some celebrities and social media influencers kick-started a challenge with the dress with several photos posted on social media.
Reacting to the development on Friday morning, Senator Kashim Shettima in a short video explained his reason for dressing that way. He noted that he deliberately wore sneaker on suit to the occasion.
“I was in Lagos for the NBA conference. The conference held in Eko Hotels. It was largely funded by the Lagos State Government, the APC government of Lagos State. Subsequently, they moved to Eko Atlantic City, a product of an idea conceived by Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“When I sent my recce team, it was learnt that one of the presidential candidates’ team held meetings for three consecutive nights to commit mischief. I was told it was a hostile crowd… I’m a banker, trained by one of the best bankers in the world. I’m a Jim Ovia boy. I deliberately wore sneakers to the NBA to snub at them.” He said.
