Kano APC Crisis: Shekarau Ignores Ganduje, Turns Down Buhari’s Invitation To Abuja
The rough path to reconciliation between the former Governor of Kano state, Ibrahim Shekarau and the sitting governor, Abdullahi Ganduje doesn’t seem to be smoothen up anytime soon.
While the Senator representing Kano West has allegedly perfected all plans to defect to the newly created New Nigerian People’s Party, NNPP, Ganduje is making all moves to scuttle the plans and make a reconciliation.
On Friday, it was reported that the two political leaders were summoned to Abuja on the invitation of president Muhammadu Buhari in an attempt to meddle in their crisis. Initially, Shekarau reportedly accepted the invitation.
Later, Ganduje was said to have visited the former governor in his home and requested to travel to Abuja together with him in a chattered flight. But Shekarau was said to have snubbed Ganduje by not attending to him.
According to source closed to the development, Shekarau decided to cancel the visit after discovering that it was not the president who wanted to see him but the national chairman of the APC, Abdullahi Adamu and some governors.
“Mallam [Shekarau] has been unreachable on phone since he concluded plans to join the NNPP. So they are making strenuous efforts to take him to Abuja and persuade him to shelve his plan.
“They know Mallam respects constituted authority, and will not turn down an invitation from Mr President. This is the reason they hatched that plan.
“But the fact of the matter is that Mallam has reached a point of no return. Should he accept to remain in APC, I assure you 80 percent of his supporters will join the NNPP.
“And then even if they gave him automatic ticket, he cannot win election in APC,” said the source.
