Why I Decided To Bring My Daughter’s Corpse From Morgue For Burial- Deborah’s Father Explains

Mr. Emmanuel Garba, father of the slain Sokoto’s student, Deborah Samuel has reacted to the gruesome murder of his daughter over blasphemy.

The bereaved parents spoke to Daily Post on Sunday after the body of the deceased was brought back from the mogue for burial.

According to the father, he personally went to the morgue to bring back the corpse to enable him bury his own child.

He said leaving her in the morgue won’t change anything, neither would it bring her back to life.

Speaking further, he noted that on getting to the hospital, the government officials explained to him reason he cannot carry his daughter’s corpse and he told them he needed to carry it and give her a proper burial.

He said he negotiated with several drivers and they all refused to carry it due to the condition of the corpse. The last driver who agreed to carry it charged him a sum of 120,000 naira which he agreed.

Mr. Emmanuel Garba, a security personnel with Niger State Water Works Corporation Tungai Magajiyah said he has accepted the incident as an act of God. He has left it for God to judge.

He however noted that he would not send his children to school again because of the incident. He stated that Deborah who was the second child of his seven children was able to go to higher institution because other children withdrew from school.

They believe that once she is graduated, she would help in assisting the others in furthering their education. But right now, that dream has been cut shot.

Deborah, a year two student of Shehu Sagari College of Education in Sokoto was lyched and burnt to death on Thursday after she was said to have sent a WhatsApp message to her class group.

According to the report, she sent a voice note to caution her colleagues from sending religious message to the group since that was not the reason the group was created.

The message triggered an outrage from her colleagues who reportedly went to hire hoodlums who invaded the school to attack her.

Initially, Deborah was said to have been rescued to the school security office to ensure her safety. But the irate youths reportedly threatened to burn down the security post. When the security men could not contain the mob, they were forced to take a retreat.

Hence, they descended on Deborah, stoned her to death and burnt her corpse beyond recognition.
