8 People Killed, 32 Vehicles Burnt In Monday Bloody Clash Between Security & Unknown Gunmen In S/East
Not less than 8 people were said to have been killed in the bloody confrontation between some unknown gunmen and security personnel in the South East on Monday.
The development was coming less than 72 hours after the visit of Anambra state governor, Charles Soludo to the embattled leader of Independent People of Biafra IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu.
Kanu had during the visit told Soludo he did not know anything about the Monday sit at home order as well as the destructive act of gunmen in the region.
On Monday May 16, Imo and Anambra States boiled with the shootout that ensued between the gunmen and the Nigeria Security personnel.
Six suspected IPOB members were reportedly gundown by combined efforts of police and soldiers while two military officers were reportedly killed by the arsonists.
The suspects were said to have attempted to burn down the Palace of Imo State Chairman of the Council of Traditional Rulers, Dr E. C. Okeke, in the Orlu Local Government Area.
In Anambra, the gunmen were said to have stormed the premises of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) at Ukwu Nwasike, Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area and set ablaze 32 of his vehicles.
Not done, they moved to the local government secretariat at Ogidi and set ablaze a Magistrate Court and part of the secretariat building.
At least two persons enforcing the sit-at-home in Anambra were killed during a gunbattle with a police patrol team.
Police spokesman, Toochukwu Ikenga, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), confirmed the incident.
