Peter Obi: Nigeria Is Not Poor, What We Have Is Poor Leadership

A presidential aspirant under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party, Dr. Peter Obi has ruled out the general belief about Nigeria as one of the poor nations in the world.

Obi who spoke on his presidential aspiration on the Tuesday edition of Arise News Morning Show stated that Nigeria is one of the richest countries in the world based on the available resources across the country.

Nigeria with a population of over 200 million people has always placed among the third world countries. This has largely been due to slow rate of development and poor GDP.

Speaking on his plans to make Nigeria’s dream a reality if elected president in 2023, Peter Obi said there are better opportunities in Nigeria than anywhere in the world.

He explained that he would create wealth and employments through textile industry. As a matter of fact, Nigeria will put an end to importation of textiles while exportation will become the order of the day.

He believes that the only reason the country is the way it is today is because the leadership at the centre does not think outside the box. All they are after is sharing of money accrued from the crude oil.

Obi noted that as long as the country’s major source of income is solidly relied on income from crude oil, poverty will always be the closest neighbor to the country.

He stated that it is time to look away from crude oil and tap from other sectors that will yield a better income than crude oil.

The former governor of Anambra state posited that once be becomes president, he will look inward to generate money rather than relying on crude oil.

Obi is one of the leading presidential aspirants hoping to grab the PDP ticket and contest the 2023 general election.
