The Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN) has has joined the growing list of professional bodies who have expressed concerned over the rising spate of violence and violence acts perpetrated by youths in the country.
While speaking on Thursday in Abuja, Chairman of PMAN FCT stakeholders forum, Dovie Mena admonished Nigerian youths to shun violence and embrace peace to guarantee peaceful co-existence in the country.
Mena, an afro-highlife legendary musician who is known by his stage name Baba 2010, said, Nigerian youths must shun violence and see themselves as future leaders.
“They should also use their talent to launder the image of Nigeria which has been dented by the current security challenge.
“Our youths should emulate celebrities like Davido, Wizkid, Burna boy and others, who have been able to use the influence of music to showcase the rich cultural heritage of Nigeria to the entire world.’’
He said that the forum had resolved to support the Federal Government’s fight against security challenges in the country.
“The maiden PMAN FCT Stakeholders Forum/ Unity Concert and lecture was organised in Abuja to promote peace, using the strong weapon of music for peaceful co-existence in the country.
“The overall objective of the forum is to preach peace and unite entertainers in Abuja and Nigeria in general for national unity and stability, using the strong weapon of music,’’ Mena said.
He advised the government to invest in the musical industry, adding that Nigerian youths were endowed with great talent.
“They needed to be supported by the government to help unlock their potential towards the realisation of the Nigeria’s greatness,’’ he said.
The Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria is an organization founded by Christy Essien-Igbokwe and Sunny Okosun in 1984 to guide, protect and promote the interests of musicians in the West African nation of Nigeria. (Agency Report:)
