The jamboree that followed Asiwaju Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s visit to Ondo State on Thursday did not come to an end without some dramatic twist, turnsd tears in some people’s eyes.

His campaign coordinator in state Ifedayo Abegunde who is also a former SSG to the state government was waylaid by some suspected thugs while returning from the airport after seeing off the APC presidential aspirant in Akure, the state capital.

It was gathered that the attackers reportedly carted away N4million given to Abegunde as fund for the ‘boys’ and mobilisation.
Abegunde who spoke to journalists after the incident said the attack was instigated by a former Commissioner and Chieftain of the APC in the state.

He said the attackers had two pistols and a sword.

His words, “After the visitation of Tinubu. We returned with him to the airport. Asiwaju gave me N2m to give to the boys. He gave me another N2m as mobilisation money.

“As we were leaving the Airport, a car came behind us. The boys came out with guns and started asking, ‘Where is the money.’

“One of them spat on me twice. The former Commissioner was present. They took away the N4m. They robbed us. It was robbery at gun point. They destroyed my car. The Deputy Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa even came and saw the damage done to my vehicle. This is purely robbery and assault.

But a young man who pleaded anonymity said they only took the money Tinubu asked Abegunde to give to them.

He said they took N2.7m from Abegunde’s car.

“There were over 500 boys there. The former SSG was taking the money to his house. We asked him but he said he was not given any money and we have distributed the money to those concern and everybody is happy.”
