2023: Five Things Nigerians Should Expect From APC Before, After Presidential Primary

If there is anything that is constituting a nightmare for the leadership of the All Progressive Congress, APC at the moment, it is the mode of selecting the candidate that will fly the flag of the party in the 2023 presidential election.

Less than 72 hours to the primary election, some leading presidential aspirants under the party are yet to be screened let alone putting up adequate plans to conduct the primary.

Going by the rumour circulating on social media, there is a high possibility that the party will settle for a consensus candidate. But how many aspirants are ready to step down for the prefered one has remained a matter of concern.

As things stand, these five things should be expected from APC before and after their Primary.

One of the first thing that may happen before the primaries is the withdrawal of some aspirants from the contest. Soon Nigerians will know the real contenders and the pretenders.

Some of the aspirants are in the race to negotiate for appointments or vice presidential slot. These aspirants will make their intentions known before the D-day.

The second thing is the collapse of structures by some Aspirants. There are some of them who are only working for stronger contenders.
As a matter of fact, the money for the nomination form was given to these pretending Aspirants.

So when the die is cast, they have nothing to lose by announcing to their followers of their decision to collapse their structures for another aspirant.

Thirdly, Nigerians should expect a serious internal crisis from APC before and after the primary election. This is because if the leaders settle for consensus, it will not go down well with many of the other contesters who have invested time, energy and money in the build up to the primary.

In the same vein, if the delegates’ list is doctored in favour of a prefered aspirant, others will revolt. At the end of the exercise, there will be emergence of aggrieved groups within the party and this group(s) may end up crippling APC chances in 2023.

Similarly, Nigerians should expect court cases at the end of the primary. Some of the aspirants who have skeletons in their cupboard will be exposed if they eventually win the primary. There is going to be a serious litigation at the end of the exercise.

Finally, Nigerians should expect a mass defection of APC members especially to the New Nigerian People’s Party, NNPP and Social Democratic Party, SDP.

These are five things that may likely happen at the end of APC primary.
