The Daunting Tasks That Will Either Make Or Mar Atiku’s Government If He Eventually Wins 2023 Presidency

For Alhaji Atiku Abubabakar, it is another daunting terrain and bumpy sojourn to the presidency.

Having secured the nod of PDP delegates to fly the flag of the party for the umpteenth time, the former vice president of Nigeria is now having his eyes fully gazed on the 2023 general election.

For the second time in a row, Atiku will have to slug it out with the ruling APC candidate in 2023. But this time, it won’t be president Muhammadu Buhari.

Whoever he contests against from the ruling party, Atiku is not likely going to have an easy ride if he eventually wins the contest and emerges the president of Nigeria in 2023.

He is possibly going to occupy a scorchingly hot seat in Aso Rock and preside over a disjointed, fragmented and economically challenged nation by the time his tenure kicks off.

Basically, here are three major task Atiku will have to deal with at the early stage of his government if he eventually wins the election and this will either make or mar his government.

One of the major tasks ahead of him is how to unite Nigeria. Presently, there are agitation for secession by various regions.

The Igbos are agitating for Biafra while Yorubas are calling for Oduduwa nation. All these agitations are borned out of years of marginalization and neglect.

For instance, the Igbos are claiming that they have not been given the opportunity to produce president of Nigeria since 1999 and believe 2023 should be their turn to do so.

With the emergence of Atiku as PDP candidate, they have threatened to scuttle his candidature in the south East. These are problems awaiting the attention of the former vice president if he wins 2023 general election.

The second task ahead of him is making the economy work. Nigeria’s economy is currently in a bad shape and there is need for urgent intervention. The Naira is terribly weaken while the inflation rate is in a serious mess.

The economy is constantly nosediving on daily basis under the current administration. Hence, Atiku is coming to inherit a dwindling and devastating economy from APC. To put this in order will be a daunting task.

The third job ahead of him is the issue of insecurity. As at today, there is no any part of the country that is safe. Bandits in the northwest, Boko Haram in the Northeast, unknown gunmen in the Southeast, ritual killers in the southwest. Abuja-Kaduna expressway is a no go area.

The entire country is seriously groaning under the heavyweight of insecurity with hundreds of Nigerians in kidnappers’ den awaiting to be rescued.

If Atiku emerges as president in 2023, he is likely going to have sleepless nights in the first six months of his government.

At 75, how the former vice president will deal with all these problems will largely determine whether he is the right person for the plum job or not.
