I Was Embarrassed With Your Report- Gov. Umahi Asks Arise TV To Apologize Over Fake Report

Ebonyi state governor, Engr. Dave Umahi has chided one of the leading TV stations in Nigeria, Arise TV over the report alleging that he had stepped down his presidential aspiration for another aspirant in the party.

Umahi who is a guess on Monday edition of Arise TV Morning Show confirmed that he is still in the presidential race and the report of his stepping down for anybody was a mere social media rumour.

The governor who is one of the presidential aspirants under the platform of the All Progressive Congress received the Senate president, Ahmed Lawal in his Abuja residence over the weekend where they discussed the future of the party after the Primaries.

While he was being asked by the Senate president about the possibility of agreeing to the prefered candidate of president Muhammadu Buhari if he eventually reveals the person, Governor Umahi responded that the president is the leader of the party and he will gladly step down if he is asked to do so.

Based on this response, many media organizations picked it up the story and rewrote the narrative that Umahi has stepped down his presidential ambition for another aspirant.

Arise TV was among the stations that fell for the gimmick. 

Reacting to the report on Monday, Umahi said he was highly embarraed by the report especially when it has to come from Arise TV which is one of the most reputable channels that people watch across the world.

He said he believed that the report was being sponsored by his opponents who are scared of going into the contest with him. 

He therefore expressed his sadness and serious embarrassment on the matter. He demanded the withdrawal of the report and unreserved apologies from the TV station.

Instantly, the TV station through one of the analysts, Reuben Abati tendered the apologies to the Governor.

The governor later confirmed that he is still very much in the race.Source: Arise TV
