With Conclusion Of APC Primary, Here Are Three Major Issues That Need To Be Resolved Ahead Of 2023

Without any iota of doubt, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu had crossed the first hurdle in his race to Aso Rock.

The APC National Leader massively won the presidential primary of the party held on Tuesday and Wednesday at the Eagles Square in Abuja after scoring a total votes of 1271 votes to defeat Rotimi Amaechi and vice president Yemi Osinbajo who were the strongest contenders in the election.

Having been declared the Flagbearer of the party, Tinubu and other leaders of the party now has some tasks that need to be carried out before swinging into full blown preparation for 2023.

The first task is the resolution of lingering conflict within the party. Several aspirants into different electoral offices who couldn’t win the ticket need to be met and assured of their places in the party.

Many of them feel cheated and they believed if the primaries were to be conducted free and fair in their states, they might have won their primaries. Most of those who won their tickets were believed to be the highest bidder and as such, they were able to buy delegates and win the election. This has really breed division among members of the party in different states.

Some members have defected to opposition parties while others are planning to move. There are those who are deliberately waiting to perfect their anti-party activities ahead of 2023 election.

These disgruntled members need to be met by party leaders, who should appeal to them and give them hope in the party. The other important thing that needs to be quickly resolved is the choice of running mate.

With Tinubu as a presidential candidate, it will be a political suicide mission to pick another Muslim from the north as his running mate.

Looking at the population of Northern Muslim and their capacity to deliver votes, APC might be tempted to give it a try. This may likely backfire especially in the South and give the other party an edge. This has to be critically looked into.

Lastly, Tinubu and APC Leaders must visit and strengthen their grip on the south South and South Eastern part of the country. If Tinubu could get a hold of the Southwest, the South East and South might want to go the other way.

The South East who are agitating for the president may choose to go with Peter Obi who is now one of the strongest contenders from the region.

The two regions are critical to APC victory in 2023 and they must not joke with them.
