Saying ISWAP Is Responsible For Owo Attack Is A Mere Speculation- Gov. Kayode Fayemi

Ekiti state governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi has distanced himself from the speculation circulating around that the terrorists who attacked St Francis Catholic Church Owo on Sunday June 5 are members of Islamic West African Province, ISWAP.

Since the Catholic church was attacked, there has been series of conflicting information from different quarters.
 While some people believe they are Boko Haram members, other said they are bandits while many people attributed the terrorists to ISWAP members.

In his view, Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu after his visit to the scene stated that such an attack can only be carried out by terrorists with international link due to the sophisticated manner with which it was executed. 

According to reports, the attackers after invading the church were said to have used Dynamite on the church building before they started opening fire on worshippers consequently killing over 40 members with several people injured.

Responding to questions bothering on the information that ISWAP was responsible for the attack on the Monday edition of Channels TV Sunrise Daily, Governor Fayemi said that fact cannot be established.

He explained it is a mere speculation and there is nothing on ground to prove it. The chairman of Nigeria Governors Forum noted that it is the security personnel who are trained in that regard that can confirm the statement. 

For now, investigation is still ongoing and it will be inappropriate to leverage on a mere speculation to arrive at conclusion.
