Atiku Names 6 Qualities That Made Him Settle For Gov. Okowa As Running Mate Ahead Of Others
Less than 24 hours to the INEC deadline, the People’s Democratic Party has taken the first shot by announcing the name of its vice presidential candidate.
The announcement was made by the party’s Flagbearer, Atiku Abubakar on Thursday after a wide consultation with party leaders.
The former vice president reportedly announced the governor of Delta State, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as his runnimate contrary to the earlier speculation that Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State will be the right man.
Speaking during the unveiling of his running mate at the party Secretariat in Abuja on Thursday, Atiku identified six qualities he discovered in Okowa that made him settle for him.
The first reason is the quality to succeed him. The former vice president noted that his running mate must have the quality to succeed him since he will be president in waiting. And this he sees in the Delta governor.
Secondly, Atiku stated that his running mate must have a deep knowledge of the economy and the rot in the system. He must be person who have an idea of what Nigerians are going through and how he can help bring solution to the suffering of the masses. He believes that governor Okowa posssses those qualities.
The third quality is the knowledge of how important education is to the economic development. He believes that whoever will run the race with him must be someone who understands the importance of education in the modern society. And such a person is governor Ifeanyi Okowa.
Similarly, Atiku picked Okowa because he believes he will stand by him in his fight against insecurity. Speaking during the unveiling ceremony, the presidential candidate stated that without security, it will be difficult to attain economic development.
It is only when the security is guaranteed that the foreign investors who have ran away will return to the country to invest. The fifth quality he spoke about was someone who will always stand by him and offer him quality advices when need arises.
Lastly, Atiku sees in Okowa a running mate who will not only symbolize the unity of the nation but also work with him to achieve a united Nigeria. He decried the level of disunity in the country presently and want to work hard to ensure the country is united.
These are the qualities Atiku considered in Okowa that made him settle for him ahead of Wike as vice presidential candidate.
