Only Nnamdi Kanu’s release can bring peace in Igbo land – Chief Dan Ulasi

By Orji Onyekwere

As the security situation in the South- Eastern part of the country continues to deteriorate, an elder statesman from the region, Chief Dan Ulasi has said that it’s only the release of the leader of the Indigenous People Of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu that can guarantee peace in that part of the country.

The former Enugu state PDP chairman made this revelation on a monitored TV program today, as he pointed out that a lot of atrocities are being committed in that part of the country by irresponsible people who are using the IPOB leader’s name to commit various crimes.

He was emphatic that only Kanu’s release can douse the tension in the South – East as a lot of people especially the youths have come to see him as their mouth piece and the only one that have been able to express their grievances loudly.

The PDP chieftain said he visited the IPOB leader yesterday on his invitation, but was surprised that they could not allow him to see him even when the rules says that he is allowed to see three people in a day. However, only the IPOB leaders in- law was allowed to see him, who brought him a message from Kanu reminding him of the need for peace to reign in the South East and as he does not support the seat-at-home exercise that has practically crippled the economy of that region.

He opined that Nnamdi Kanu’s method or approach may not be right, but that he is passionate about the course of the Igbos which has endeared him to a lot of people, thus he is the only one that can put a stop to the menace happening in the region if he is released.

Chief Ulasi however added that he will meet with some of the South East governors, like the Imo state governor Hope Uzodinma whose state is the hot bed for violence and Dave Umahi, the Works Minster and intimate them on the need to use their good offices to lead other governors from the region to meet with President Tinubu concerning the IPOB leader’s release.

His words, ‘’I want to give a warning that if anything happens to Nnamdi Kanu in detention, the present and next generation of Igbos will not have mercy on all of us collectively’’.

On what he expects to be the outcome of the Supreme Court trial in the presidential election matters, he has this to say.
‘’The day I went for the final presentation at the presidential election petition tribunal with my principal Atiku Abubakar was the day I knew that we have lost the case. I listened to the chairman of the tribunal lambasting Peter Obi, my principal Atiku Abubakar, the two political parties that brought their petition and even the lead counsel for Labour Party and that told me where he was going.

I sat in my room for 12 hours listening to the reading of the judgment. I can bet my life that the judge did not write what he was reading. It was not fluent, nor coherent. It’s something somebody wrote for someone and he is just reading it. Let me see what will happen at the Supreme Court.’’
