Senate President Speaks On Rumoured Defection To PDP

Ola Awoniyi, the Special Adviser (Media) to Ahmad Lawan, the Senate President, on Saturday said the viral video purporting his principal’s defection from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is fake.

Awoniyi debunked the purported video, noting that the original video clip, was mischievously edited to 26 seconds, from a 3 minutes 30 seconds clip of Lawan reading the letter by Senator Muhammad Adamu Ailero of Kebbi State, informing his colleagues at plenary of his defection from the APC to the PDP over issues in the state chapter of the APC.

“It was the video clip of the Senate President reading out Senator Aliero’s letter that was doctored to give the wrong impression that Lawan has renounced his membership of APC,” Awoniyi said.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Senator Ahmad Lawan is a committed member of the APC and has no reason whatsoever to renounce his membership of the party.

“Members of the public are hereby enjoined to discountenance the video in reference as it is the handiwork of mischief makers.”

Meanwhile, in the wake of a supremacy battle over the Yobe North Senatorial seat, a former lawmaker of the PDP, representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District, Shehu Sani, has advised the current holder of the seat, Lawan, to step aside from the senate seat.

Sanni, in a statement via his verified Twitter handle, Friday, said Lawan has attained his peak in his legislative career, adding that the Senate President should step aside for a young man.
