Ekiti Election: One Major Goal Gov. Fayemi Scored In The State Aside Producing A Successor

While the winner of Ekiti State governorship election is already basking in the grandeur of celebration, losers are licking their wounds and at the same time, looking back to know where they actually got things wrong before now.

Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressive Congress was declared winner of the poll on Sunday morning having secured the highest votes and won 15 out of the 16 Local government in the state.

Oyebanji who was anointed and massively supported by the incumbent governor, Kayode Fayemi will now take over the affairs of the state in October when Fayemi’s second term tenure will have been over.

However, the real winner of the just concluded election is not actually Oyebanji but Dr Fayemi. 

Since 1999 when Otunba Niyi Adebayo bacmes the first executive governor of the state, no governor has ever produced a successor in the state. Fayemi is now the first person to achieve that monumental feat.

But this is however the biggest achievement of his administration at the moment. What will remain a major goal Fayemi will continue to celebrate after his tenure is goal of leading the All Progressive Congress to a second consecutive win in the state.

APC will now be the first political party to rule the state for an uninterrupted period of 8 years. This has never happened in the history of the state since 1999.

Fayemi had his first term in between 2010 and 2014 tried to win his go for a second term after his first tenure bit lost to Ayo Fayose of the PDP.

In the same vein, Fayose despite being a sitting governor could not win the election for his anointed candidate, Professor Kolapo Olusola Eleka who was the sitting deputy governor as at then.

This has been a trend that no one has been able to break in Ekiti state. Fayemi is the only governor who has now achieved that big goal. 

This is the major goal Fayemi has achieved aside winning the election for his anointed candidate.
