Mrs. Caroline Madu, mother of the late gospel singer, Osinachi Nwanchukwu has narrated what she knew about the affairs of her late daughter and her husband, Peter Nwanchukwu.
Mrs. Madu recounted her ordeal during the hearing of the case at the federal high court in Abuja on Monday.
According to the 61 years old mother, Peter had once told her daughter that if she did not leave his house alive, she will leave in death.
Speaking before Justice Njideka Nwosu-Iheme, she said Peter stole her daughter by lieing to them that he is pastor but on the contrary, he is not. She said he would beat Osinachi like a carpenter working on a piece of wood.
She explained that the last time Osinachi came to check on her was in December. Her husband told her she should not step in her parent’s house.
She said the last time she saw Osinachi, she asked her if she was sick but she said no. Osinachi doesn’t send her money and whenever she asked her for money, she would respond that her money is in her husband’s bank account.
Each time she made a request to visit her, she would ask her (the mother) to call and take permission from her husband. Meanwhile, the husband had told her he does not want to see any of her family in his house.
When the suffering became unbearable for Osinachi, the mother claimed she asked her sister to come and take her away from the husband’s house. The move was successful and Osinachi stayed away from her husband for about 15 months.
Later, Peter came with three pastors to plead to the family, citing that what God has joined together, let no man put asunder. After so much plea, Osinachi agreed to return to her marriage.
On the day she died in April 8, the husband did not call her. It was her neighbors who heard about the death on Radio, and Social media that came to her house, weeping and broke the news to her.
The husband later called her in the evening of that day to inform her Osinachi was dead. She said she reminded him of his promise that if the singer did not leave alive, she would leave in death. He has fulfilled his promise and she ended the call and switched off her phone.
While being cross examined, the 61 years old mother denied ever knew about the ailment alleged to have killed her daughter.
