AWCON: Injury knocks Oshoala out of tournament

Nigerian striker Asisat Oshoala will play no further part at the 2022 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations taking place in Morocco due to injury.

Super Falcons’ medical crew declared on Wednesday that Oshoala sustained a Grade 2 Medial Ligament strain in the 6th minute of the encounter with the Banyana on Monday, and would be out of action for between two and three weeks, with another one or two weeks period for recovery.

She is now due to fly out of Morocco on Thursday after medics at her club, FC Barcelona Feminine, advised that she return to Spain.

The development now put pressure on Rasheedat Ajibade who must now lead the team’s attack as they fight to make it out of the group.

Nigeria lost their opening match 2-1 to South Africa, while their Thursday’s opponent, Botswana, secured all three points in their first game.

The Super Falcons must beat Botswana on Thursday to brighten their chances of making it out of the group stages.
