AWCON: Super Falcons beat Botswana to renew hope

After suffering a 2-1 defeat to South Africa in their opener, Nigeria’s Super Falcons have renewed hope of fans by beating Botswana 2-0 on Thursday.

Randy Waldrum and his players fell to a shock defeat in the hands of South Africa for the opener, not only was the loss painful for Nigerians, the team lost their star player, Asisat Oshoala to injury in the game.

South Africa currently tops Group C but with this win, Super Falcons have handed themselves a lifeline to progress out of the group stage.

Ifeoma Onumonu scored the opener in the 21st minute as Ucheibe added a second in the 48th minute to seal all three points.

Up next for Super Falcons is an highly anticipated encounter with Burundi, a win will serve as a job done for the Nigerian team to progress out of the group stage if Botswana loses to South Africa with a high goal margin.
