We’ve Advised Tinubu To Pick A Muslim Running Mate & He Has Agreed- Ganduje Confirms

If the statement of Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje is anything to take to the bank, the long search for the All Progressive Congress vice presidential candidate may be over anytime from now.

Ganduje, a close ally of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the APC for 2023 general election has assured his people on Friday while playing host to some clerics at the State Government House that Tinubu has been advised to settle for Muslim Muslim ticket.

Since Tinubu emerged the party Flagbearer, his choice of running mate has become a major controversy in the public. A Muslim by religion, and South Westerner by Origin, the former governor of Lagos is widely expected to pick his running mate from the North who should be a Christian.

This will largely uphold the principle of federal character and religion inclusiveness. It will also help in mitigating the flame of religion sensitivity in the country.

However, the choice of whom to pick that will draw significant votes for the party and deflate the electoral weight of the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, a heavyweight politician from Adamawa has been a major headache for APC after their primary.

To meet the INEC deadline, a Katsina born politician who is a Muslim, Massari was picked as a running mate placeholder pending the time an appropriate choice is arrived at.

But with the statement made by Ganduje on Friday, the long wait for Nigeria to behold the Christian running mate to Tinubu might likely be a wait in futility.

Ganduje confirmed the choice during a gathering of about 100 clerics at the Kano state government house as part of activities to mark Eid El Kabir.

According to him, they have advised Tinubu to pick a Muslim deputy and he has agreed.

The governor noted that a Muslim-Muslim ticket is a reality. It is not something new in Nigeria.

He asked the clerics to pray for Tinubu to emerge as Nigeria’s president come 2023 and also urged them to offer prayers for his administration’s peace and progress.

Perhaps, the APC presidential Flagbearer will announce to Nigerians his Muslim running mate after the Eid El Kabir celebration.
