I’m Obicentric, Not Obidient- Kenneth Okonkwo Gives Reason For Supporting Obi After Leaving APC
Nollywood actor, Kenneth Okonkwo has been literally spitting fire since he announced his resignation as a member of the All Progressive Congress on the basis of Muslim-Muslim ticket.
Okonkwo, Lawyer, activist, politician and film maker is one of the several members of the ruling party that openly kicked against the choice of Kashim Shettima as running mate to Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the APC.
Featuring on Arise TV Special interview on Thursday, Kenneth Okonkwo who confirmed his exit from the party said it is a gross injustice and a slap to the Christian community that there is no competent person among them that can fit into the position of vice president in Nigeria.
According to him, how can anyone utter such a statement that Muslim- Muslim ticket is the only arrangement that can work in Nigeria of today that is heavily divided and polarized along religion line.
He pointed an accusing finger at the party national chairman for being the brain behind the emergence of Shettima as vice presidential candidate. He said that is what you see when you have an octogenarian as your party chairman.
Asked if he has joined another party or decided to support another presidential candidate for 2023, the actor turned politician said he is throwing his weight behind Peter Obi, the candidate of Labour Party.
The anchor also asked him if he has fully become Obidient as Peter Obi’s followers used to call themselves, Keneth Okonkwo said he is Obicentric and not Obidient.
He said he is supporting Peter Obi not because he is from the same political region like him but because he is the only one that respects the principle of fairness, equity and justice among the leading presidential candidates for 2023.
Peter Obi, a South East presidential candidate who is a Christian picked his running mate, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed from the North West who is also a Muslim. Considering the agitation for rotation of presidency and all inclusiveness, he said Peter Obi got everything right.
That is the reason he is supporting the former governor of Anambra state.
