2023: Kingsley Moghalu Gives More Explanation On Why Tinubu Opted For Muslim-Muslim Ticket

Former presidential candidate of Young People’s Party, (YPP) Kingsley Moghalu appears to have seen what many Nigerians do not see about the decision of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to have settled for Senator Kashim Shettima as his running mate.

Tinubu, a presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress announced the former governor of Borno State on Sunday as his running mate, the development which has continued to generate heated argument among Nigerians.

Shettima is a Muslim politician from the Northeast while many Nigerians expected Tinubu, also a Muslim, to pick a Christian from the North so as to balance the ticket.

Elaborating on reason behind the choice of Shettima on his verified Twitter handle on Friday, Moghalu said the decision is more of political calculation than religion.

According to the former Deputy governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Tinubu’s move was a strategy to get votes from the North who are predominantly Muslim. If a Christian politician from the North is chosen as a vice presidential candidate, there is the possibility for APC to lose a significant amount of votes in the region.

The former ADC presidential aspirant however lamented how religion has consistently slid down the nation in the last three decades.

Moghalu however said the decision will be tested at the poll in 2023.
