How Afenifere Replied President Buhari After Saying The Job Has Been Tough And He Is Eager To Go
The pan-Yoruba Socio-Political organization, Afenifere has officially responded to the statement made by president Muhammadu Buhari early in the week at his country home in Daura, Katsina State.
The president while receiving in audience some APC Governors, lawmakers and leaders of the party told Nigerians that he is eager to go. The job has been tough.
President Buhari whose tenure will expire in May 2023 was lamenting on the prolonged strike by Academic Staff Union of Universities. Since the university lecturers have embarked on strike, every attempt to get them back to classroom has been fruitless.
Realizing that the lecturers are not ready to back down from their demands and are ready to carry on with the industrial action, the president rather than personally calling them to a round table discussion, simply resorted to lamentation and telling his guests at his Daura hometown that the job has really been tough and he is eager to go.
Responding to him, Afenifere who described the statement as “laughable” said the president is not going anywhere now. He must wait to finish what he has started.
This was contained in a statement signed by the group’s spokesman, Barrister Sola Ebiseni.
According to the statement, president Buhari is known for lamenting and giving excuses whenever he is expected to take action on something. The issue on ground is not for lamentation but it calls for decisive action and taking a firm decision.
Afenifere said the president still has enough time to clear the mess on ground. 10 months is long enough to make a difference in the country and chickening out at this time is an act of cowardice. The statement read in part.
“Like he has done in the last seven years on vital national issues, the President merely lamented the six months strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities without proffering any solution or giving any assurance on how soon the youths of this country would return to school.” Afenifere said.
