CAF CL: We will support you – State govt assures Plateau United
The Plateau State Government has assured players and management of Plateau United FC that it will not relent in supporting the team as they represent Nigeria in next season’s CAF Champions League.
The State Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Victor Lapang, gave the assurance while addressing the team shortly after they defeated Enyimba 1-0 in the last match of the 2021/2022 Nigeria Professional Football League season played at the Jos International Stadium on Sunday.
Lapang explained that government will provide all that is needed to ensure the team perform well in the competition and urged them to reciprocate that gesture by remaining focused and committed to the task ahead.
The Commissioner who congratulated the team for finishing second in the NPFL and picking one of the two CAF Champions league slots at stake, said they have made the state proud with that achievement.
He commended the General Manager of the club, Pius Henwan for instilling discipline, hardwork and commitment in the team and promised government support to enable him succeed in the continental assignment.
Henwan informed the players that preparations ahead of the CAF Champions League has already commenced and assured them that management is working round the clock to ensure that their welfare is properly taken care of.
“Remember, in our last two previous campaigns, we failed to go beyond the preliminary stages of the competition. This time around, I want you to brace up for the challenges ahead and get into the group stage of the competition, so that we can do Plateau State and Nigeria proud.”
Henwan who expressed confidence in the ability of his team to deliver, assured that they will be properly kitted while their welfare which is always a paramount concern to management, will be accorded top priority more than ever before.
Technical Adviser of the team, coach Fidelis Ilechukwu, commended the General Manager and Technical Director of the club for their unflinching support, describing them as the best he has ever worked with.
Captain of the team, Golbe Elisha who spoke on behalf of the players, appreciated management for their massive support and urged them to improve on the existing welfare of the team.
The Peace Boys who finished second at the end of the 2021/2022 NPFL season, will now fly Nigeria’s flag in the CAF Champions League alongside newly crowed Champions, Rivers United of Port Harcourt.
