APC Fixes Date, Venue And Time To Unveil Shettima Despite Stiff Opposition To Same Faith Ticket

The All Progressive Congress is set to unveil its vice presidential candidate, Senator Kashim Shettima, former governor of Borno state.

The move is coming amid controversies and outrage that have trailed the choice of Shettima as running mate to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is the presidential standard bearer of the party.

A few days ago, it was rumoured that Shettima would be formally unveiled and introduced to party leaders on July 14. But the exercise was postponed for no definite reason given to journalists who were at the party Secretariat to cover the event in Abuja.

On Sunday, it was reported that Tinubu in company of his wife and some other top chieftains of the party went to meet with the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye. The reason for the meeting was not however disclosed in the media.

Many however believed that it was not unconnected to controversies that have enveloped the choice of Shettima in the Christian community.

The choice of Shettima has become a major topic of discussion in the public. Some christian leaders across the country have threatened to mobilize against the election of Bola Tinubu and APC in 2023 if he goes ahead with Shettima as vice presidential candidate.

The controversy was said to have caught the party leaders in a web ofconfusion on whether to go ahead with the former Borno governor or possibly drop him for another Christian candidate.

On Monday, the party’s publicity secretary, Suleiman Argungun announced that the party will go ahead with choice of Shettima and he will be unveiled on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the senator representing Borno Central will be unveiled on Wednesday by 1pm at the Shehu Musa Yaradua Centre, Abuja.
