Obasanjo Writes UK Govt., Begs For Mercy On Behalf Of Ekweremadu, Wife Over Kidney Harvesting

Former Nigeria’s president, Chief Olusegun has written a letter to the British government on the current saga involving the former deputy president of the Nigerian senate, Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice.

Ekweremadu and his wife were found guilty of trafficking a young Nigerian to the UK by a Court, with the intention of harvesting his organ for transplant in order to treat their daughter, who is having a kidney problem.

The former president, in the two-page letter implored the British authority to show mercy and review the charges against the embattled former federal Lawmaker with a view to pardoning him in the interest of the diplomatic relations between the country and Nigeria.

The former deputy senate president was arrested last year by the UK police alongside his wife, Beatrice over their attempt to harvest a kidney of a young boy who was trafficked to the country for that same purpose.

The move was made by the couple to save their sick daughter, Sonia who is battling with kidney disease and needed an urgent transplant.

After back and forth legal battles in the UK court, Ekweremadu, his wife and go-between doctor were all found guilty of the allegations levelled against them while Sonia was acquitted.

The final judgement is however expected to be delivered in July.

Apparently unsettled by the way things panned out over the matter, the former president decided to wade-in with a voluminous letter to the UK government.

In the letter, Obasanjo begs the UK officials for mercy on behalf of Ekweremadu and his family.
