YABATECH Celebrates Outgoing Registrar

The management of Yaba College of Technology has showered encomiums on the immediate past Registrar of the school Dr. Sikiru Olukayode Momodu, for his meritorious service to the school in the last five years as the Registrar of the school. Momodu served as the 5th Substantive Registrar of the College from March 9, 2018, to March 8, 2023.

The end of tenure inaugural ceremony featured a Public Lecture titled, “Law and Ethics: Evolving New Culture in Public Service for Good Governance” by Professor Owasanoye, Bolaji (SAN), Chairman, Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), and the launching of a Compendium titled “THE MAN, The Pen and the Rules”.

The Rector of the College, Dr. (Engr.) Adedotun Abdul in his address of welcome explained that in recognition of the meritorious service of Dr. S.O. Momodu, the College deemed it fit to organize a public lecture, to celebrate all principal officers who showed unwavering dedication and commitment, during their tenure of office. He said it will henceforth be the College’s modality of showing appreciation and a policy of Recognition of Distinguished Service in the College.

The Chairman, Governing Council of YABATECH, Prince Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), who was the distinguished guest of honor at the event, was represented by Dr. Peter Okolie a member of Governing Council, and Chief Lecturer in the Department of Food Technology. Fagbemi commended the efforts of the celebrants in reforming the Registry Unit of the College and setting a new standard in public service.

He described Momodu as a man of integrity, transparency, loyalty and accountability. Emphasizing that during the celebrant’s five years on the seat, he proved himself as an exemplary civil servant.

Prince Fagbemi urged staff of the Registry to carry on with the good works of Momodu and perform whatever function they are assigned with unwavering determination and integrity.
The guest speaker, who was represented by Barrister Abbia Udofia, Director & amp; Head of System Study & amp Review, ICPC, said that law and ethics are crucial elements to evolving new culture in institutions. Quality public service and good governance will not emerge without conscious and consistent ethical structures and efforts by the people and society.


“Everyone must constantly be engaged in the question on the essence and application of ethics and values,” he cautioned. He encouraged public officials and citizens to stand up for the law, good ethics and value for good governance. The guest speaker extensively spoke on law, ethics and education, public service and good governance enhancing ethical values for good governance.
He further outlined the role the ICPC plays in the culture of good governance and encouraged the attendees to leave a track record of Integrity.


The ICPC chairman, however, recognized the unrelenting efforts of Dr. Momodu at improving the services of Yabatech Registry Unit. He enjoined the College not to allow a vacuum to come up following the completion of the statutory five-year tenure of the Registrar.


In his response, Dr. Momodu thanked God and all the people that contributed to his success during his tenure as the Registrar. He disclosed that his administration was able to digitalize the way registry operates especially with regards to the transmission of memo and circulation of appraisal forms among members of staff and collection of transcripts by former students who can now apply online and delivered such within a very short period of time.


According to him, all functions previously performed manually have been digitalized, resulting in increased efficiency in service delivery. “We have been able to introduce the new evaluation report; the one we have been using has been in existence for over 30 years, and introducing a new one is a landmark achievement for any Registrar”.
“Admissions are more or less done online, student registration is now done online, so these are some of the things we were able to bring in within the five years, and we also organized in-house retreat for the governing council members of the College’’.


Among the people that showered encomium on Momodu as team player and a loyal staff were immediate past Rector of the College, Engr. Obafemi Omokungbe, former Registrar, Mrs. F.F. Taiwo, his predecessor Ms. B. C. Amapakabo and others. The climax of the event was with the unveiling of 99-pages Compendium which is a compilation of works and presentations of the celebrant.
