Just In: Bill For State Police Scales Second Reading

A Bill seeking to amend the Constitution to to accommodate state police has scaled the second reading in the House of Representatives.

The bill, sponsored by 13 members of the House, enjoyed support from the majority of the lawmakers in the green chamber who believed that concerns of political victimization by state governors should take the backseat to the current state of insecurity across the country.

The quest for State Police was rekindled after governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) restated that state policing can be a  solution to the country’s worsening security situation, lamenting that Nigeria is “almost on the road to Venezuela”.
