Umoren’s Killer Overpowered By Security Men After Bagging Death Sentence & Attempted To Escape 

It was a dramatic scene on Thursday at the premises of Akwa Ibom State High Court, Calabar following the conviction of Uduak Akpan, the killer of Ini Umoren.

The young man bagged a death sentence by the court after a prolonged legal battle spanning over a year. He was sentenced to death for killing Umoren, a fresh university graduate who was lured into her death by a deceptive job interview.

Akpan had invited late Umoren, a young graduate of University of Calabar for a job interview at a location which was later revealed as an uncompleted building used for different kind of nefarious activities.

On arrival, he reportedly made a sexual advance towards the victim who blatantly refused him. In the ensuing struggle, Akpan was said to have hit her with a big stone which led to her death.

After his arrest, he confessed to the crime but later denied. Since last year, the case has been in court while the suspect remains in prison custody.

However, justice was served on Thursday when the matter was brought up for hearing. He was sentenced to death.

Trouble however started when Akpan upon hearing the judgement attempted to escape from the court premises.

 Despite the presence of heavy security personnel at the venue, the convicted killer tried his luck.

He was consequently overpowered by the officers who dragged him to the waiting black maria and taken to the maximum correctional facility till his final day.
