CWG: Brume wins gold in long jump, sets new record on final day

Nigerian athlete, Ese Brume, added to the success of Team Nigeria as she won gold medal in the women’s long jump at the final day of the 2022 Commonwealth Games (CWG) in Birmingham.

Brume also broke the games record set by Bronwyn Thompson (6.97m) with her 6.99m jump at the Alexander Stadium on Sunday evening.

Her feat compliments that of the 4x100m women who also won gold.

Brume, who also won the Commonwealth Games long jump in 2014, failed in her first attempt with a no jump.

The second attempt saw her jump to the new games record of 6.99m.

Her fifth and final attempt also saw her go past the new games record with 7.00m.

Brume’s place on the podium is Nigeria’s 12th gold medal of the games. Nigeria also surpassed its 1994 gold medal haul which stood at 11.
