Ngige Lied, I Was Not Given A Presidential Order To Resolve ASUU Strike In 2 Weeks- Education Minister

Nigerian Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu has literally dampened the morales of university students and their parents with his recent statement in Abuja.

The minister while granting a press Interview at the state house in Abuja on Thursday during the ministerial briefing made it clear that President Muhammadu Buhari did not mandate him to resolve ASUU crisis within two weeks.

The statement was contrary to the public speculation and what Labour minister, Chris Ngige told the Media that president Buhari has given the Education Minister two weeks to ensure that Nigerian students and their lecturers return to the classrooms within the next two weeks.

Adamu disclosed that the president only told him to resolve the crisis within the shortest possible time.

The minister however insisted that he will not succumb to ASUU’s demand for their members to be paid the backlog of salaries withheld within the period of six months that they were on strike, noting that it is the penalty for their action.

The minister also disclosed that five of the university-based unions will likely call off their strike within the next one week while that of ASUU remains uncertain.
