Video: Moment Electricity Workers Switched Off Power In Abuja & Threw The Nation Into Darkness

On Wednesday, Nigeria Electricity Workers shut down the power system and plunged the entire nation into darkness.

Their reason was connected to the lingering crisis between the labour Union and the federal government of Nigeria. The Union was said to be protesting the insensitivity to the workers welfares by the government.

Until Wednesday when the union eventually took the drastic step, they were said to have issued a six-week ultimatum to the federal government to either meet their demands or face the consequences of the industrial action.

According to Joe Ajero, who is the union leader, the major issue the union is fighting against is the act of conducting promotion examination to their staff members who are principal staff officers.

The Union wants an automatic promotion for staffs who are principal officers to the position of Assistant General Managers without promotion exams.

With the failure of federal government to meet and resolve the crisis with them within a space of six weeks given as ultimatum, the union went on strike and shut down the power system in the country.

The video of the workers while switching off the power in Abuja has been trending on social media since Wednesday.

The Union has since suspended the strike and gave the federal government another two weeks Ultimatum to meet their demands.
