Let’s Take Religion Out Of Politics, Nigerians Should Be Happy About Tinubu, Shettima Combos- Yahaya Bello

Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has thrown his political weight behind the combination of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Senator Kashim Shettima as standard bearers of the ruling All Progressive Congress in the 2023 general election.

Bello was among the presidential aspirants who lost to Tinubu at the APC primary in Abuja in June. Since he lost the ticket, he has maintained a deafening silence on the activities of the party regarding the next presidential election.

Many have thought that the Kogi governor was not in support of the Muslim-Muslim ticket that is being pushed by the APC at the centre ahead of 2023.

But he appears to have proved this speculation wrong on Friday when he featured on Channels TV Sunrise Daily where he was made to respond to series of questions bothering on the affairs of the party.

Asked if he is comfortable with the choice of Shettima as running mate to Bola Tinubu, both whom are Muslim by religion, Yahaya Bello responded that Nigerians should learn how to take religion out of politics.

He said Bola Tinubu and Kashim Shettima are the best combos nigerians can ever wish for. He believes that the choice of Shettima is not only about winning the election but also about capacity to deliver, track record of achievements and general acceptability.

He explained that until Nigerians stop looking at things from the lens of religion and tribe, the country will not move forward. Right now, we need someone who can break the jinx of religion sentiment and take the bulll by the horn in order to make the country work. That is exactly what Tinubu had just done with the choice of Shettima.

It was a risk but at the end of the day, it will pay off and he is sure that Nigerians will appreciate Tinubu for taking such a huge risk on their behalfs.
