Netherland Knocks Nigeria’s Falconets Out Of U-20 Women World Cup
The Nigerian Falconets have been made to pay heavily for their defensive errors by their opponent at the ongoing FIFA Under 20 World Cup in Costa Rica.
The only surviving African team succumbed to 2 goals to nil in the hands of Netherlands on Monday, ending their dreams of making it to the final of the tournament.
The Falconets have approached the match with high spirits having conviniently won two of their three group matches to qualify for the Quarter final.
Their hope of booking the semi-final ticket of the tournament at the expense of Netherlands was initially high as the African team approached the match with domineering tendencies in the first half.
But at 36 minutes, the Netherlands scored the first goal and before the first half could end, the Nigeria’s dream of progressing in the tournament completely evaporated after the European country punished them for their defensive error in the 18 yard box.
At the end of first half, Nigeria had five shorts on target without producing any result while Netherlands had 2 shots on target and converted them all.
Every effort made by the Falconets to come back into the game in the second half met a brickwall as they were strongly resisted by the opponents.
At 92 minutes, Nigeria had the opportunity of getting a consolation goal through a penalty but this was later ruled out by VAR after a thorough check by the referee.
The Falconets who were heavily punished by Netherlands for their defensive errors with the two goals have now ended the dream of the African continent to be represented at the final after being knocked out by two goals to nothing.
